Be You

be-youI am pretty specific about what I like and my wedding makeup was no exception. I wanted a bright lipstick – something fun and bold. πŸ‘

When I spoke with the makeup artist on the phone – I was told that neutral, soft, ‘barely there makeup’ – looked best on brides. The florist said that neutral was innocent and soft – like a bride. πŸ‘°πŸ»
My photographer told me the pictures would look more heavenly if I wore barely there makeup. I tried to explain that it just didn’t feel right – it wasn’t me. πŸ™πŸΌ

Surgeons: Feminine or Professional ?

We are surgeons and we love to operate. πŸ”§

I love this picture for a few reasons:πŸ’š

1. First and foremost – the smiles on our faces are because we just finished a very technically difficult laparoscopic surgery that took over 2 hours. It was extremely successful and we accomplished our goal. In just a few weeks, our patient will be able to move ahead and hopefully get pregnant naturally! There is nothing better than helping people make families – and this is why we do what we do! πŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ’š#patientsfirst

2. This was our first surgery operating as co-surgeons and it was pretty clear that we have very similar surgical styles. No not fashion – but, surgical technique. πŸ’‰ One of the most under appreciated parts of surgery is how much teamwork is involved. β›ΉπŸΌβ›ΉπŸΌ
What makes surgery so much fun – is when you get to work with someone who can read your mind. They know exactly where you’re going to make your next incision and can anticipate what instrument you will need or at what angle you want the camera. And vice versa. It’s not that much different than any other team sport. Whether you are on the soccer field ⚽️or the tennis court🎾 – anticipating your teammate’s next step is KEY to winning.
The best teams do this flawlessly! When this happens in the OR – not only is it the GREATEST (endorphin) high – but, you are able to give your patients the best outcome! πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

3. Last, but CERTAINLY not least…this picture was taken minutes after we left the operating room – and as you can see,@mrsstanhisermd and I don’t hesitate to wear some of the more feminine things in life – even in the OR 😘 πŸ’‹. Yes. I wear lipstick in the OR (aaand, yes, sometimes it gets on my mask and all over my face.. Haha πŸ™„). But, I consider it one of my power tools πŸ”§.

It gives me the confidence and that little extra boost I need to “go get it”. πŸ‘ŒπŸ» Despite the fact that I am a surgeon – I am also a woman and I love it. I am serious about patient care, career oriented, maintain a professional appearance….AND I wear lipstick.πŸ‘„

Because, YES. You CAN be feminine AND professional. πŸ‘
