I am pretty specific about what I like and my wedding makeup was no exception. I wanted a bright lipstick – something fun and bold. 👠
When I spoke with the makeup artist on the phone – I was told that neutral, soft, ‘barely there makeup’ – looked best on brides. The florist said that neutral was innocent and soft – like a bride. 👰🏻
My photographer told me the pictures would look more heavenly if I wore barely there makeup. I tried to explain that it just didn’t feel right – it wasn’t me. 🙍🏼
When my makeup artist came for the practice run – she brought light eye shadows, shimmery blushes – and neutral, barely there lipsticks. No, I politely reminded her, I did not want neutral lipstick. 👼🏼 But, she wanted me to try – so I could see how much I’d love the innocent bride look. So – I tried it. 🙅
And then I went to the MAC makeup store and tried on lipsticks by myself. I walked up and immediately saw the color – TANGERINE. Yes. 🍊💥
When I brought it to the counter – the makeup artist asked if it was for a big night out on the town?! 💃
“No. It’s for my wedding day!”
She had the reaction I had been waiting for: “That. Is. Awesome”. She flipped over the end of the lipstick and said “Lady Danger – good name. I hope he’s ready.” “Perfect. Sold.” I bought three.
I wore TANGERINE lipstick that day (and almost every day since) – and couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out – the makeup, the pictures – the person I married. Best. Decisions. Ever. 💄👄👫
And here I am today. I am not soft, neutral or barely there. For better or for worse – I am bright, bold – and always THERE. 👠👠👠 YOU may not be bright or bold – or even like tangerine lipstick (😉).
But, don’t let any one persuade you from wanting, doing and being what is best for you. Only YOU know what you want. Only YOU know who you are. And, only YOU can drive your future. 👌🏻 Be. You.
